O.E. was tinned, not paint or galvy?

Tinned, as in lead solder. I think, to reduce sparking from the nozzle?

Anyhow, if you paint it, be sure to leave some 'contact zone' unpainted in order to assure a ground path to prevent static sparking. Rubber filler hose has a copper wire between the layers that will drain static to the tank and then to the chassis, then throught the tires to ground.
