I'm using a set of vintage probably 60s 19.5 rims on my 98 RAM 2500 Commins. I usually just run them in the winter while snow plowing. I got them from Dennis Sherman about 10 years ago. They came with a nice set of BF Goodrich bias ply directionals which I took off and saved. What I use on them is Good Year G159 or G133 8x19.5 12 ply radials recapped with a Bandag bar tread that starts out about 15/16" deep. This tread is mostly used on larger trucks, i.e. deeper tread. I think there were many makers using this size wheel in the 50-60s. My brother had a 1958 GMC stepside 1 ton that had them stock. Those are still running on a 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. UPS is probably the biggest fleet using these today. I'm sure Mike's advise on rims is sound and it would be nice to know which ones were a problem; however with an 800 pound V plow on the front and a 3 axle 30 foot flat bed goose neck on the back I haven't cracked or broken any in about 6 years of use. If you send me your e-mail address I can send you a picture of the tread. These casings are readily avalable and are capable of being recaped at least 2 to 3 times, especially if used on a light truck. And they are a whole lot cheaper than a new tire. lylevanwert@i2k.net
