Well, after waiting about a month for a hydraulic shop to send me a hydraulic pump, and hearing every excuse known and a few new ones, it finally arrived. I pulled my front clip off (yet again) loaded the truck onto the trailer and delivered it to my local metal wizards to fab up a mounting bracket. I stopped by after work today and the pump was all mounted on a beautifully made bracket, the hoses connected and the belts on and adjusted! "Fire her up and lets see how it works" the owner said. So I get in, start her up, spin the wheel full right, NICE, full left, NICE, one more full lock to lock, I have power steeing again, aint life great! Then I feel a bump and they are all shouting for me to shut her down. I do and climb out to see the bottom of the steering box blown out. Not just the end plate and snap ring but the casting split where it is grooved out for the snap ring. Major bummer. The hydraulics shop had told us that the pump had a built in pressure relief in it. We called him and then he said, no, there is no pressure relief. The pump will put out 4000 PSI at 4000 RPM. I was just at idle. I spoke with AGR who said the steering boxes are happy at 1500 PSI but will take spikes of 3000 PSI. So, now the steering box has to come out, hopefully be able to be repaired, an inline adjustable relief valve installed, and then try it again. One stp forward and a few steps back. Just as long as the snow holds off I will be fine.
Tim
