The 3/4 ton is right on the edge of having enough rear spring to safely handle a heavy trailer load. The one he is looking at is a shortbed, if you are already at the limit, you need the longer wheelbase to help stabilize the load. For towing, either a 3/4 long bed or a 1 ton short bed would be fine, but not a 3/4 ton short bed.
