After building thousands of WC 1/2 tons with 7.50 x 15 tires and 4.89 differential gears, and thousnads more WC 3/4 tons with 9.00 x 16 tires and 5.83 differential gears, Dodge applied the lessons learned and put 7.50 x 16 tires on all Power Wagons that came with 4.89 gears and put 9.00 x 16 tires on all Power Wagons that came with 5.83 gears.

This had nothing to do with driving at interstate speeds. There were no interstates back then. It had to do with giving the truck enough power at the ground to do the job.

If you don't need the power, go ahead and use the 9.00 x 16 tires ON THE CORRECT RIMS. Click on the link for information about correct rim sizes.
