In my opinion, the best way is to break down each spring pack and bead blast. Now with everything bright and shiney you will be able to see any problems if they exist. Then shoot each leaf with Epoxy primer , and then chassis black. I use PPG MP-170 epoxy primer and PPG Chassis Black. Reassemble with new bushings, center spring bolt and new bolts in the leaf retainers. I do not use any type of teflon between leafs. Betts Spring in California cautioned me against doing this when they designed the new packs for the Carryall. Its been their experience that over extension is possible in off road trucks. They refused to build a sring pack with teflon for off road applications. And YES, there is a big (Huge)
Controversy on this subject of teflon. I flew with their experience.

If you just wire bursh them and coat in oil, more rust will appear real quick, and you may not see any problems.

Thats how I do mine.
