But also, seems to me, in my mind, that some senders have a copper 'whisker' inside that works like a brush on the pivot section of the bent wire. It's visible only if you de-crimp, de-rivet the stamped parts. Soldering an external wire would be a good fix.

I did once re-wind the ni-chrome wire on a 41. But I think I just shortened what was on it- it had broke just a couple turns from one end. Plus I replaced the sunken cork float with a brass carb float. Things are repairable, if you want to expend the effort.
