Instead, he thanked me for saving him.

We had tack welded a huge duct for a bag plant, lying on the floor. 12ftx18ftx2ft, 3/16ths sheet metal with tons of 2" channel flanges welded on for rigidity. Time came to stand it up, so Danny could weld downhill, it's much faster. So I stick a grade 8 bolt through a hole, and hooked a chain on it, and through a hole in the fork lift forks. Soon as I get it up about 7 feet, Danny walks underneath it to check out the tacks. I said "Danny, get out from under that. You got no need to be under a load hanging on a crane." He backed away, pissed at me for being right- again. Then, as I lifted the weldment another couple feet, the bolt broke. Two days of work ended up in a stack about 5 inches high. Danny's eyes got very large- almost large enough to make up the difference!

Later that week, with TWO grade fives, and TWO chains, we could drag the completed weldment around the shop, hoisted to about 45 degrees. What a harmonic it had! What volume! Think of a steam whistle 18 feet wide, with a 12 foot long 'pitch pipe'. Needless to say, the folks in the trailer park next door did not appreciate having a welding shop next door. I guess they were not music fans.
