If you can find one in your price range, get something that will go as slow as possible, down to 100 rpm or slower. If you ever want to use a hole saw on metal, drill holes in stainless steel, or have to drill through something hard (like a spring, or hardened shaft) a slow machine is the answer. Some of the older ones had a third set of "stack pulleys" that gave you many more low speeds to choose from.
