Backlash .005 - .010 using dial indicator. Adjust by turn the side bearing adjusters to move the ring gear closer or farther out from pinion gear. Check every 90 degree rotation of the ring gear in case the differential case is out of specs. .006 to .008 between pad and ring gear. Also check every 90 degrees with ring gear check.

Pinion bearing preload is 15-25 inch pounds w/o seal in place

Differential case side bearing preload 10-15 inch pounds. You have to lock the spider gears using a screwdriver and make a tool using flat stock that will fit into the side gear splines. I bought a cheap 1/4 drive extension and welded a piece of flat stock to it.
