gas gauge woe's

I have a 63mw300. I just had the tank "renued" and just put it back. When I took it out the gauge worked fine. Now that I have put it back in , when I turn the ignition the guage pegs at full. I only have 5 gallons in there. The sender unit has only one wire. The connection looked good. Could it be that the Renue material is preventing a ground?
