The Poly oil pans will reverse, and as you said, he oil pick-up must be changed. The other rarely mentioned difference is the dipstick. The correct rear sump oil pan has a guide built along the passenger side to direct the LONG dipstick to the rear and down into the sump. Reversing your front sump pan will hold oil but you wont know how much is still there later.
I ran into this issue on my truck and found a correct rear sump pan, longer dipstick and oil pump pickup from Dave Cirillo.
