This is a common issue with some of the Poly 318 applcations, on these, you can just flip the pan around, but, before you do, you need to re-work the oil pick up tube and screen so it pulls from the sump.
This is a 15 minute job once you get a look at it.
Know idea what engine you have, thats indeed the starting point.
