well, i know the tank isn't pristine clean but I have two filters inline and had been running the truck around the back 40 for about two years without much trouble. i have drained the tank, and really didn't get much crud out there either. the filters i have inline are glass so i can see through them, there isn't much in them very little a little sediment, it's strange becasue after I install a brand new pump on the first time when you fire up the truck it runs great(for a worn out motor) but then won't restart. maybe they are just crap pumps, I mean they are Checker pumps! (but I would think they'd work for more than a day) after it has started and been shut down it doesn't seem to have very good suction but, upon inspection of the pump no junk comes out, no nothin. I had the siphon out of the tank recently as well, I even took off all the gas lines ran a piece of welding rod through them to check for blockages, NOTHIN! I can't imagine just the little bit of sediment that I see in the filter could be clogging the pump so fast, you know? there is no question the tank could use a good cleaning but, I don't really think that would cause the problem so fast, especially when it ran fine before with a realy dirty tank! I know, I know, I should have pulled it and cleaned it when I brought the thing home...........but I still can't see that causing it so quick................
