About 45 years ago I was on my knees driving stakes in the ground with a 6# sledge hammer with a long handle. Somehow, the end of the handle dug into the dirt on a swing toward the stake, diverting the head of the hammer sideways into my head. After shaking that off, I guess I was a little dingy. On the next blow to the stake I had my indes finger on top of the stake and smashed it with the sledge. It is still wider than the other fingers and a little stiff, but I still have it.
