Michael, I had a 4-53 for ten years in a fishing boat. When I moved up to a new boat I swore I'd never use another Detroit and went with a John Deere. Having said that they are very reliable and economical however they are noisey and heavy for the amount of power they produce. There are better engines out there. My .02
