Working on the assumption that you have checked free play of the release mechanism, here's what I think.

Does your truck have hydraulic release mechanism? If so, maybe you have
a hydraulic problem.

I have the same problem on my '65 GMC horse van (with hydraulic clutch release)
and I have been thinking aboutthe possible causes. I don't see how worn fingers could do this. It could give you
too much free play but you could then adjust that out. Of course, you still might need
to replace the parts but the symptom would still be there unless you fix something else.

I can think of only two possibilities at the moment.

1) a hydraulic problem (either air in the line or a bad cylinder) which causes some
amount of movement to be lost.

2) a disintegrating clutch disk or disk rivets coming undone which allows movement of the
disk material.

Any other takers on this?

By the way, I am just about to do one more test on the GMC. I am going to start it in gear with
the clutch in and let it idle for a couple of minutes to see if the hydraulic mechanism creeps and
gradually engages the clutch.
