Bob Stahl's rework of my diff shows a profound improvement. First thing I noticed is that there is a lot less slop in the driveline. This is likely due to his alubronze thrust washers instead of the munched and crunched fiber ones that likely dissappeared 40 years ago. Also noticable due to the tighter diff, is that it's quieter turning corners and the propensity for the light throttle driveline whip is almost gone.
As I suspected, the 3rd gear rattle at 15-20 mph is also gone due to new bearings.

After 5 miles of low speed driving, there is quite a bit of heat present on the diff A tattletape temperature indicator reached 138 degrees. This in 35 degree weather. Hope things ain't too tight in there.
