I own a 1949 B1PW and installed an auxilliary 40-gallon tank on it for the long trips. Optimizing the carburetor and ignition will help. The Pertronix electronic ignition discussed in this Forum should be great when they get it figured out. I installed a complete Jacobs electronic ignition package in my 1974 Scout II with the 345ci V-8 and the boost in mileage and power was very noticeable. This wasn't cheap, but the results were worth it.
