It seem the combination of steel and aluminum used on the the LU4 of the M37 shift mechanism is often corroded into your frozen state. I have used two such winch trucks for years that were frozen and simply made sure the locking plate on the floorboard was used. No problem. At the same time I have spent many cold nights in the shop this winter rebuilding one (an MU)for another truck just so it would all be correct.
The secret will be in the disassembly of the pieces then cleaning up or replacing the corroded parts. There was a very good post on the tear down of the LU4 a few weeks ago. If you don't find it or someelse does not come up with it, let me know. I have a copy somewhere. Good luck
