I recently discovered a 1952? WM300 for sale, serial #88904966, asking price is $7000.00. This truck has had the brakes relined, has new tires all around, a new oak and stainless ribbed bed in back, and is driven about ten miles daily. The owner has done his own work, and painted it himself with a brush, red over the original green. It has about 90,000 miles on it, and the winch has a decent full length cable, and everything works. Wipers were replaced with electric ones, lock-out hubs on the front, and gets about 10 mpg. I think I guesses the year correctly from the charts, but I need to know three things:1)The prices throughout the country seem to vary widely; I am in upstate NY. Is this a reasonable price? 2) I would drive this about 10 miles a day to and from work, but would need to put in seat belts for my two daughters. Is this practical? Are other parts readily available for regular tune-ups, etc.?3) Although I desperately want to own one of these simply because they are such a great looking and pulling truck, is it foolish to think of this as daily transportation, and should I leave it for a collector/restorer? Oh, one more: How fast can these really be driven safely over the highway, and should they be taken on longer jaunts, or are sustained highway speeds bad for the drivetrain? Thanks ahead of time; I just found this forum, and reading through the old messages reveals alot of passion for these trucks. Someone mentioned what a great forum this is, and I must agree! Again, thanks for all of your opinions!
