Travis,
Not quite the question, but originally the early 1/2 tons were quite different winch vs. non-winch. The winch vehicles had a longer re-enforced frame up front. The radiator support cross member was relieved for pto shaft clearance. The winch truck had a different tranny. The (early?)non-winch truck did not have the pto opening on the driver side, only the pass side. The winch trucks had both pto openings. The parking brake set up seems to be slightly different as well, with the mounting of the transfer case lever slightly changed. The lower portion of the grill on the winch truck was higher for clearance arounfd the winch. And yes the MU engagment fork was on the pass side and faced rearward. I know this was not what you asked but may help.
