I have purchased 3 trucks in the Canada.
Get a bill of sale (receipt) and whatever ownership info they have, titles, registration etc. I applied for Michigan titles when I got home, again with no problem. But I think things might have changed in that regard, do check first with State guys on what you have to do.

The first was a 1965 FF Power Wagon.
No problem importing this, no duty etc because there is no duty on goods originally made in the USA.

Second was a 1953 Canadian M-37. I was worried about this one because I had heard rumors that military vehicles (probably just armor or gunned) were a special problem. Anyway, no problem, no duty etc.

Third was a 1947 Fargo half ton, again, no problems whatsoever.

I think NAFTA eliminates duties anyway whether made in USA or Canada. More modern vehicles, made after 197? or so must meet USA specs on emissions, safety, DOT regs etc etc....so this is hard....older is better in this case.

Now things may have changed so I strongly recommend you talk to Customs people first. You might even want to stop in at the boarder crossing going in, confirm what you need and sort of give them a "heads up" for when you come back through.

Let us know what you find out.
