Mike:

Bruce was not talking about the true definition of a idiot.

Engineers make lots of mistakes and their designs are not necessarily intelligent nor practical in the real world.

Engineers are not gods. Many people are book smart and can get a degree in most anything. The proof is can they apply their knowledge in the real world. "Idiot engineers" or what ever do not seem to be able to this.

I have seen geologist who consistently find new oil fields many times during their career. While others never do. The difference is in their ability to apply their knowledge.

I know a geologist who has a Phd from Stanford University at the top of his class. He was highly respected in the company we were in and he was on the fast track. He tried to pass the California Professional Geologist test 4 times and never made it. Several of us less educated and "less desirable" people passed it the first time. Just because you have the title or the education does not make you intelligent or worthwile in the workforce.

PS: If it is a book, it is not necessarly correct!
