I participated in in airshow with that same Collings Foundation B17G "Nine 'O Nine" here in Vermont ....my 1943 Dodge Command Car was parked under its wing as part of 2 day static display and I gave some AF vets rides. They were doing maintenance on #4 engine and I got all the old spark plugs as a souvenir. It is great speaking with the vets...one of them was a flight engineer on 17's over Europe and as we stood beneath the "Nine 'O Nine" he pointed up to a panel behind the cockpit and said, "See that panel ..thats where a bullet came through and hit me in the ass"... another vet who lives nearby was in a 24 on the infamous Romanian oil field raid and survived the raid itself but was so damaged that they crash landed in Turkey where the fuselage of his bomber is now on display at the military museum in Istanbul. My oldest son Jon has a standing offer to fly with the Collings Foundation as he has over 1000 hours in WW2 type tail draggers but he is too busy with his music career in California.
