i have a question regarding the used of a jackshaft on a chain driven vehicle. a group of local college students are building a vehicle that will require the use of a jackshaft to get the chain to the rear of the vehicle. the engine sprocket has 20 teeth, the final drive sprocket has 44 teeth,what size should the two sprockets on the jackshaft be?smaller?bigger?. should they be the same size as the engine sprocket to keep the ratio the same. can someone explain what effect different size sprockets have on a jackshaft. is some torque lost because of the jackshaft?
