Anyway, I agree with you, the Stubby postal vans look like a modified Town Panel, though the Wheel Base is shorter.

If you look at all the body peices used to make the stubby mail vans closely it is pretty clear that they are TP parts mixed with one off parts.

I do not think they are modified TPs, I think they are built using TP parts, but that is hard to be sure about this far out.

I have looked at more then one of these stubby mail vans, and several of the right hand drive 3 rear windowed TPs used by the USPS and they all were standard 1/2 ton solid rear axled.

Only the true Route Vans that I have seen had the semi independent rear axle, as the driveline angles, etc require a special engine layout as Norm's picture clearly shows.

It is possible that something else was done with these stubby vans, but they are so short (90 WB I think) that I think it would be hard to fit in all that weird axle stuff.
