This is a Route Van, same as the truck in the car show picture just posted. It had the independent suspension in 1953 and 1954.
The Postal Van, in my second photo post, Also had the IRS, you can see the arm hanging down in the photo. I believe that after two years they went back to conventional suspension, which may be causing Eric's confusion...= )
