When Mt St Helens blew up a lot of people learned about air cleaners the hard way. If that happens again, I'd rather have an oil-bath unit that I can at least clean and refill than one with paper elements that I can't get because all the stores are sold out. Of course a paper element can be knocked and shaken and reused for a while in a pinch. I occasionally still see an old Cat, usually a D4, out working a field in a cloud of dust, but they always put a tall air intake extension on them when they do that.
