I guess you choose your poison, but I might rather get the runs for a day from bacteria than eat neurotoxic pesticides that'll gradually rot my brain until I'm an incontinent, drooling vegetable when I'm 75. I read somewhere that part of the problem is they're now having the pickers clean the spinach and other produce in the fields so they can drop the residue right where they are instead of hauling it back out of the packing shed. Of course pickers in the fields aren't as clean as assembly line workers in the packing sheds. I suppose it would be cheaper to kill, gut, and hang cattle in the fields rather than in a slaughterhouse too, but it would be hard to keep the meat clean.
