cooling question/help!

well abt every 5 miles or so my m-43 will vapor lock and i have to pull over and pour water on the fuel pump to cool it back down.. is there a chance that i have a plug in the line? or maybe i need a new water pump? i suspose a heat shield would work... but what are some easy ways to see whats wrong or maybe fix the problem...
