I have a gene disorder that prevents me from just 'putting' around, I have no choice but to use all of the throttle available. My dirt bike put me in the hospital several times, my ATC put me there several times, my quad never did, it was like riding around on the roof of a sprint car...= )
I didn't mind hurting myself, but I'd think twice about putting my kids on an ATC (are they even still made?) or a dirt bike, but I wouldn't hesitate to let them ride a quad (they started riding when they were less than two years old on a governor equiped Honda 70 quad)
I guess it all depends upon the type of terrain and the type of riding that you do...that's why I like 4 wheels, a roll gage and a harness...= )
