1910.177(e)(1)
Multi-piece wheel components shall not be interchanged except as provided in the charts or in the applicable rim manual.
******************************************************************************************

I believe this pertains to components made by other manufactures. Wheels and Rings Made by, ie; Good Year, Budd, Sweet Year and Bad Year should not and can not be interchanged. That makes sense.

If a wheel and ring are from the same manufactuer, wheel/ ring design and family, I dont believe this applies. These are in no way a percision piece of machined equipment. I can see in no way that each ring and wheel mated to each other at time of build, other than a part number and date stamp. I cant believe the Military stocked Mated wheels/rings.

Further, I just read the chapter in my 1967 Dodge Shop Manual on Wheels and Tires. No where is any mention made to the fact that wheels/rings must stay a mated pair. There are many cautions in the Dodge Shop Manual, this is not one of them. The 67 Shop Manual does cover all aspects of Power Wagon.

Further in " TM 9-8030 Department of the Army, Technical Manual for M37 ( which has the same wheels/rings as PW) it states in Section XXII Wheels, Hubs and Tires,
229 (tire and tube) b. Inspection (1)
Clean the Wheel and inspect for distortion, damage or corrosion. If the wheel is corroded, remove corrosion and paint the flange surface. Replace the damaged wheel
229 (tire and Tube) b inspection (5)
Inspect the side ring for cracks or distortion. Replace the damaged ring"

No where does TM 9-8030 say wheels and rings must me a mated pair, in fact they clearly say in the first case to replace the 'WHEEL' and in the second case to replace the 'RING' Neither says to replace both with matching numbers,

Based on the above, I dont believe it. They do not have to be a mated set.
