I understand you have a 2001, My 2003 Shop manual instructs to do the following;

Just turning the key on, only runs the transfer pump for 2 seconds.

Turn the key to crank the engine and immediatelly release the key to the run position. The transfer pump will run for 25 seconds. Try starting the engine after this sequence. If it will not start repeat the sequence ( this sequence is susposed to prime the engine). If that fails crank the engine for no more than 30 seconds at a time. When the engine starts, it may run erratically for a few minutes and be noisy, this is normal.

The shop manual makes no mention of the need to open injector lines to bleed. In fact the shop manual CAUIONS of the dangers in opening the injector lines due to the very high pressure fuel which is possible to inject right through your skin.

I have found it primes quicker if the fuel filter is full of D'zl

This is the gist of what the shop manual instructs to do, I could not figure out how to copy and paste this section from a PDF. Hope your 01 is the same procedure.....good luck

Paul
