To remove the PTO shifter shaft/shift fork: 1. Remove the pipe plug cap, ball spring and ball.
2. Remove the shift fork's set screw.
3. Drive the shifter shaft out the back of the hosuing and then remove the fork.

To remove the drive shaft and sliding gear:
1. Remove the cap screws from the end plate (carefully - it has paper shims to adjust bearings) and oil seal retainer plate.
2. Drive on the open/splined end of shaft until it separates from the bearing.
3. Then pull the shaft and oil seal retainer from the housing.
4. Remove sliding gear and bearings from housing.

TIPS
1. Replace roller bearings on reverse and idlers gears
2. If shafts for gears are worn, replace.
3. If shifter shaft has dings on it around oil seal area, replace
4. Inspect other parts and replace as needed.
