I have owned three separate vechiles that have seen over 400,000 miles now. All three Dodges, all three were V8's, all three ran all over the place, and all three had the original engine in for the whole time. One of them had 6 tranny swaps, one had two tranny swaps, and one just had its first tranny pulled out and replaced with a 727 instead of the 904 that it had.
I have a friend who has a 3/4 ton chebby with over 1,000,000 mlies on it. 4 engines 4 trannies and one trip to the body shop. He says he will never sell it, I don't blame him.
I don't hear those kind of stories of people who own foriegn cars. Most of the time they get rid of them before they hit 100,000. I do know for a fact that in Japan they can't drive a car on it's original motor for more then 40k. Then it has to be replaced it's all about the emissions laws over there. SO if you were a car builder who knew that your engines could only last for 40k how much work would you really put into a vechile that has to be replaced every year or two?
