The line that DDT causes egg shell thining has been repeated until it has become common lore. Except that every study in recent times has exculpated DDT as the cause for shell thinning in eagles.

The decline of the eagle population was well established before the introduction of DDT. The recovery of the eagle population can be tied to the same reason that deer have become a nuisance, people just don't hunt anymore.
