It's amazing some people survive. Let me clarify what I meant by "a little ways". I meant back and forth in the yard 50' or so at the slowest possible speed, not all over town until the tire comes loose. With no air in the tire, the ring's not going to fly far if it comes off, and since he's tying to get junk tires off the rims, it doesn't matter if driving on them flat hurts the tires. I too have noticed that old NDTs can be so stiff that they don't look flat even if they're totally out of air.
