Of course they were from the generation of the B-17, the WC and FFPW, the M37, the M1 Garand, the 1911 .45, the M2 BMG, the D8 Cat, the Skagit yarder, and shop tools by Bridgeport, Clausing, Yates-American, and Sunnen-Sioux. Their tools were simple, trustworthy, rock-solid no-BS machines that you could count on to do what they were made to do under the roughest conditions day after day, and will keep on doing it today if you're lucky enough to have one. Those men will soon be all gone, but their machines live on, and perhaps can tell us something about how they lived and how we ought to live.
