I took the speedo out of my newly restored PW to install a unit scaled in km/h and I was surprized at the amount of force you have to apply to get it out of it's place in the dash. It fits in there very tight and there seems to be a bulge on the side of the speedo that makes it even worst.
After you've taken all four screws out and taken the speedo and light cables off, use a rubber or plastic faced mallet from behind to tap it out. Be cautious not to get the speedo cocked in the hole so go around tapping until it gets out.
I haven't found that prying between the dash and the corner leafs to be good. You risk to break the rim and glass as well as butcher-up the dash paint.
