I pulled my 78 PowerWagon ClubCab years ago so I've been hooked to a sled before. My TW weighed in at 5380# and I with a really tight clay track along with the winch hanging out front I had traction. It came down to power and momentum to get it any further down the track. I have a Reese type hitch mounted as required by the rules combined with a 3" shackle to hook up to the transfer.
