Doesnt the flow depend largely on the 'pinch point'( i.e the smallest diameter in the circulation system)?
Taking the Coatney approach on a 251, it looks to me like we're looking at 1/4" npt fittings on the block exit/entrance (sorry, I'm real bad on my pipe sizes this late at night). I'd make the lines a little bigger, but don't see a need for 1/2" unless you want to use them as coolers.
