But I am an engineering student and I tend to want to sort out most situations logically. There is a website here that explains precicely why it is virtually (not completely) impossible to drive up a hill that is 45 degrees. I've tested this more than once in a lab and confirmed it for myself. I think that the majority of mistakes made in this area of physics is the misunderstanding of the difference between "percent" and "degrees". While percent is a ratio of a slopes rise divided by its run, degrees are far more complicated. There is no direct relationship between the two that can sorted out in your head, unless you have a firm grasp on the Sin and Cosine triginometry functions. Not saying that its impossible, because I've seen some pretty hairy hills out in the Moab desert with rubber on the top, but unless extraordinary conditions are met and everything goes as planned, the climbing of a 45 degree hill is virtually a physical impossibility.

If I'm thinking too hard or just plain wrong, please let me know because I'd like to tell my friends I can climb a hill they can't hardly stand on!
