until you drive a helitool equipped truck! my m37 / 360 without booster or proportioning valve on a 2 chamber master worked so well it made me smile each time i stopped- well almost. driving on long island with soccer moms and a - holes aplenty requires brakes up to todays standards. you CAN run a truck with stock brakes but id hate to do a panic stop around here using the old tech. in the day when asbestos was used in the linings, new drums were readily availabe, lining shaping took place, rubber was good, offshore repro parts were not employed in the brakes system anwhere in the system etc. and people had time do do maint - the brakes were good. if you can run and maintain drums at the zenith of their performance level - more power to you. i dont have the desire to constanty dicker with brake adjustments and cylinders that leak from occasional use. i have backing plates and drums available for the purists. its a preference and costs are involved - you have to direct your resources accordingly.
