My 99 CTD had the pump go out after warranty it was out by miles not time, and I got dodge to cover it but it was a real battle and some not very choice words. One of my other dodge CTD also had the same oil leak yours does and the mechanic that works on my truck from time to time said it is a 10-11 hour job and about $1000.00 he worked for dodge for over 12 years, now he has his own shop. But he told me that the book tells you that you have to pull the motor to do it, maybe that is why they told you that they have to take the trans.. tc out. But anyway he also told me that even though the book says you have to pull the motor that you don't he said that all you have to do is pull the upper rad.. support and of course the rad.. and ac and intercooler and then you can access the front cover fine. He also told me that he liked to do those at the dealer cause it paid 26-27 hours even though it only took 10-11 once he figured out that there was a short cut. Hope some of this helps.

Also if this leak just started I would just drive it and keep a eye on it that is what I did and I checked it all the time it would leak about one quart or less sometimes between oil changes sometimes more but not always, I put close to 80k on before I had mine fixed. I think that I work my CTD's very well. My mechanic that most every time that you can drive them quite a while before they really start to leak. So that is what I did and I took that truck across the USofA many times just checked every fuel stop most times I did add oil every time I checked it either. Matt
