I looked in my 95 FSM. This is a 12 valve so not exactly the same but may be similar. Looks like there are 2 possibilities based on what u said. There is a gear housing cover that bolts to the gear housing, and the gear housing bolts to the block.
If the leak is in the housing cover, its not too tough of a job.
If the leak is between the housing and the block, you're screwed.
Step 1) Remove the engine assy from the vehicle.
Step 2...) Remove a ton of stuff, including the camshaft. Uuuugh!
Just keep pouring oil into it, park over dirt, u now have auto oil change system, just remember to change the filter now and then.
