Guys:

With all that's being said, I love watching fireworks and also lighting them off. We have a tradition here in Uggville, but ya have to be careful and expect the unexpected.

The city of Chicaga has many fireworks displays thru-out the year. The biggest being on the lakefront. They have barges out in the lake with tons of fireworks (enough for a 45 minute show). I used to do work on the USS Silversides which was docked at Chicago's Navy Pier.

When the city did the 4th, we'd bring a BBQ grill and party on the deck and watch the fireworks (we were about 300 yards from the barges). Let me say, even the pros screw up. One time a mortar round went off, only going up several feet before it came back down, going off, and setting most of the other stuff off on the barge. The guys got hurt.

I've been to other professional shows where stuff came down on the crowds, hurting all kinds of people. Knock on wood, nobody has been hurt by fireworks in Uggville. Personally, I'm more into the fountains and things that make colors than the boomers. I also add a little extra fuse on most of what I have, and light it from/in my yard trailer.

Bottom line, HAVE FUN, but be careful out there.

Later
Ugg
