I have been mulling over a winch on my WC. I am leaning towards an electric for several reasons:

1) PTO winches require that the vehicle be running. If you swamp out in a mud bog or are otherwise not running your PTO winch is worthless. I do agree that the PTO is a work winch and stronger, but how much winching are you planning on doing?

2) Availability and choices. There is a wide array of electric winches available from serious heavy duty ones to small recovery winches. Again, the question turns on what you are planning on doing with the winch. PTO winches are great but personally I am thinking of an electric over hydraulic.
