Non-Sync Gear Wear

This question is for all you guys who like the old style non-synchronized transmitions. Mine is on a '48 B1 and has about 25% of the gears worn off starting in from the lateral surfaces where the gears interface. 2nd and 3rd gears are noticeably louder than the others and shifting takes considerable finesse. [Of course some finesse is to be expected ] Does this sound like a keeper or should I trade it out for a transmition with less wear? I'm tearing the truck down to the frame & installing highway gears while keeping it looking as origional as possible. So, a change out is not a problem ,including going synchronized.
