Oil Lines Revisited

On the last Forum someone asked how/where the oil lines from the block to filter go. A response was that the top port (by the dip stick)goes to the bottom of the filter and the bottom port goes to the top of the filter. This seemed opposite to my '51 which I had just changed the filter on. Sure enough it is. So I checked others. Most were like mine but a couple are plumbed like the reponse suggested. Are there differences between the different filters (T handle vs nut, etc), or even model year changes? With so many years on these trucks a lot can be changed by accident or ignorance. Which is correct? The response made sense, as it explained what each port went to inside the motor. I guess what I need to know is is this true across the board for all 230 motors??? Thanks- sorry to dwell on a minor topic but I don't want my oil filtering or circulation screwed up. None of the manuals are detailed enough to tell.
